Hi there, I’m Clara St. James.

I live in Scotland with my two little boys, and when I’m not chasing after them, I’m usually reading, writing, or daydreaming about new stories.

I’ve loved books since I was little, getting lost in stories and scribbling down my own whenever I could. Now, I get to share them with you.

My debut novel, Check & Chase, kicks off The Breakaway Series, a four-book hockey romance full of found family, stubborn hockey players, and the strong women who change their lives. Expect plenty of heart, heat, and a lot of fun along the way.

I adore writing spicy romances, and I hope my books feel like a perfect escape, equal parts swoony, steamy, and sweet.

Comfort snack/drink when writing?

A steady rotation of tea, White Monster, and Red Bull.

First book I remember loving?

The first book series I ever loved (and obsessed over) was The Soul Screamer series by Rachel Vincent.

Favourite video game?

I’m a gamer at heart — my all-time fave is the Dragon Age franchise.

Writing in silence or with music?

Silence? Never heard of her. I write with music, usually playlists made for the book I’m working on… and yes, sometimes the same song on repeat for hours.

Favourite theatre show?

Hamilton owns my whole soul.

Favourite tv show?

My guilty pleasure is binge-watching shows like 9-1-1 (basically anything with firefighters, police, or rescue drama).

Dream travel destination?

Dream trip? Take me to New York City yesterday, please and thank you.

Ritual for writing?

My writing ritual is simple: I become a gremlin, sneak into my “cave” (aka my room), and don’t come out until I’m done.

Which character do I relate to the most?

Of all my characters, I relate most to Isla (from an unpublished, mental-health heavy story). She’s basically pieces of me on paper.

Fun/weird fact?

I have about 100+ different laughs… and according to me, they’re all ugly.
